Pet Laparoscopy Method (Minimally invasive surgery or Keyhole surgery)
What Is Laparoscopy Method
Laparoscopy is also known as keyhole surgery. Instead of cutting open the entire abdomen, our surgeon makes a small hole to work with. In our laparoscopy method, we don’t use a laparoscope like in human surgeries due to the wide range of animal sizes. Instead, we use a set of techniques that achieve very similar results.
Why Use Keyhole surgery
- Smaller cuts mean less pain after surgery
- Lower risk of infection
- Less bleeding and trauma to tissue
- Faster healing and return to normal activity
- Shorter time under anesthesia in many cases
Common Uses in Pets
- Spaying female dogs (ovariectomy)
- Liver or intestinal biopsies
- Removal of retained testicles (cryptorchid neuter)
- Exploratory procedures for long-term vomiting or swelling
- Gastropexy (stomach tacking) to prevent bloat in large breeds
Aftercare and Recovery
Pets usually go home the same day or next morning. Most return to normal eating and walking within a day. The small incisions heal fast, and pain is usually minimal. Your vet may prescribe pain medication and advise limited activity for a few days to one week.
Is It Right for Your Pet
Laparoscopy method(Minimally invasive surgery or Keyhole surgery) is safe and effective for many dogs and cats, especially those that are young, active, or sensitive to pain. Not all clinics offer this method yet, and not every procedure can be done laparoscopically. Our vet will advise the best option based on your pet’s health, age, and the type of surgery needed.
